How is this a good thing? Isn't the Horton Town Square set a fixture of the studio they are in? And from what I understand aren't most of the set attached to the Horton Town Square?

I really never understood how that HTS set worked lol. Unless of course that set get destroyed in the up coming undergroud tunnel explosion.

Are the Days studios on the lot that was owned by NBC Universal? According to this, they had sold their Burbank lot and been leasing it back since 2007. http://articles.latimes.com/2012/feb/12/local/la-me-nbcmove-20120212

I remember some stories about ABC getting screwed after their move because they thought they had great warehouse options, and they turned out to be much more expensive. That's not the only reason they got canceled, but apparently it did hurt their financials.

Here's some info about the studios:

The Andrita Media Center is a state-of-the-art High Definition media facility, fully equipped to go from live production to on-air distribution all from within the same building. Completely rebuilt in 2003, the Studio’s rich history includes Moonlighting, Full Moon Films, HBO’s Arli$$ and MTV’s Life & Rhymes’. The 106,000 sq. ft. gated campus features 3 television/film/video studios plus one radio studio, and 70,000 sq. ft. of office, editing, dressing and support facilities. It’s a full HD/SD production facility that provides 24/7 network origination/playback/satellite uplinking. A fully integrated tapeless digital post-production environment features 38 HD/SD Final Cut Pro edit stations and 3 Pro Tools audio bays. Andrita transmits over 20 networks 24/7 including 5000 hours of live programming per year via satellite and/or fiber. Located in the city of Los Angeles, Andrita is minutes from downtown LA, Glendale, Burbank, and Pasadena, as well as convenient to all major freeways, the Burbank Airport, LAX, and the southern California production community.

On a studio tour a few years ago I was told they were leasing the building thru Sept 2012 . The 'short term' lease was one of the reasons they relocated Ellen and Jay Leno

Yeah. I think this has nothing to do with cost cutting. The studio was sold back when it looked like Leno was giving up The Tonight Show. Conan O Brien's Tonight Show was filming at a new studio and I think, at the time, NBC wasn't thinking Days would make it. Even when Leno came back, his show began being taped elsewhere. I recall many thinking the sale of the studio was another nail in Days' coffin.

Perhaps the lease is cheaper in the Glendale studio. I also seem to recall a potential buyer wanting to buy the Burbank studio and demolish it so maybe Days HAS to get out or maybe NBC wants them to so they can sell it off finally.

Seeing as NBC is moving most, if not all, of the Burbank studio occupants to the new Universal City studios, wouldn't DAYS move there too? Unless the lease is much more expensive, I don't see why they wouldn't, since it seems to have most (and probably more) of the benefits the Glendale studio offers

It's interesting to me that the AMC cast complained it wasn't as good a location for trendy eateries, since that seems like a no brainer. AMC and OLTL used to tape on the Upper West Side right near Lincoln Center. That was would be tough to beat, even though it's not even considered the best part of Manhattan for dinning.

Honestly, a bunch of new sets and a newer, recenly renovated studio might do the show some good. They would have to move some of the sets - like the Brady Pub and Common Grounds and DiMansion, but they might brighten up some how. I'm actually pretty curious if they decide to it.

I still think NBC's ratings freefall is a good thing for Days because apparently it does make money and most of their shows don't.

Burbank studio is small days is crammed onto two little stages a new studio could allow for many different sets to be left up for use however I'm scared the Horton house won't survive the move but maybe they could bring back the pent house I did see it in the garbage can the last NBC tour I took lol

Thank you for posting, I find this tidbit very intersting. I wonder when we will know for sure? You would think that if they have to be out by Sept 2012 that they would definately know what they are doing by now. I mean, don't they have to start packing? Hahaha
